The competition will consist of three elimination rounds and one final round.
1st Round:
The candidate must choose three (3) works from the following list of works for the 1st round:

2nd Round:
The candidate will choose three (3) works from the following list of works for the 2nd round:

C. Debussy: The Afternoon of a Faun. (Edition: 'Jobert')
D. Shostakovich: Symphony No. 1. (Edition: 'Sikorski')

3rd Round:

Round 1:
S. Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, opus 43. (Edition: 'Boosey & Hawkes')
Round 2:
New piece by Anders Hillborg commissioned by the Malko Competition.
Score of work by Anders Hillborg will be mailed at the beginning of March 2009 to the applicants selected to be candidates for the competition.
Finale:
C. Nielsen: Pan and Syrinx
Brahms symphony No. 1, 2 and 4. (Edition: 'Breitkopf & Härtel')
All candidates will conduct 'Pan and Syrinx' and first movement from one of the above symphonies. By drawing lots it will be decided which of the Brahms' symphonies each of the candidates in the finale shall conduct.

The jury reserves the right to reduce the number of competitors successively. The jury's decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
The competition will be public and will be broadcasted in radio and on TV and possibly on the Internet. Candidates will receive no transmission fee or fee for their appearance during the competition.
